Secular Use and Decline

Interest in medieval heritage grew in the 19th and 20th centuries. Clare Priory was recognized for its historic significance, prompting conservation and archaeological studies.

 Revival in the 20th Century


Augustinian Return


In 1953, the Augustinian Friars returned to Clare Priory, re-establishing it as a religious community and spiritual center. It became the first Augustinian foundation in England since the Reformation.

Modern Functions


Today, Clare Priory serves as a retreat center, parish church, and venue for cultural and spiritual activities. The friars engage in pastoral work, education, and hospitality. shutdown123
